Characterization of WM164 (1.1-1.5 THz) Spectrum Analyzer Extenders

The characterization of a WM164 spectrum analyzer extender (SAX) is described. This instrument extends the operation of modern spectrum analyzers to receive signals at 1.1-1.5 THz. Conversion loss is measured by introducing a harmonically clean test tone at the receiver band and measuring the down-converted power. An error analysis is performed based on the various uncertainties in the system, resulting in an uncertainty in the characterized conversion loss of +/-1.2 dB.
