I/O Processing Performance Optimization for Embedded Real-Time Virtualization Systems
Huiying Cui · 2024
At present, embedded real-time virtualization technology is emerging, and embedded virtualization systems are widely used in various aspects, but the overhead of I/O virtualization is yet to be solved. In this paper, we start from the interrupt processing, which affects the I/O processing overhead the most, and use the optimization method of combining hardware and software, combining the hardware-assisted virtual Generic Interrupt Controller (vGIC) technology with the Interrupt Remapping Table (IRT) and the inter-processor interrupt (IPI) mechanism, to reduce the VM-Exit in the interrupt processing, so that the performance of the virtualized system in the interrupt processing is comparable to that of the bare-metal, which further greatly reduces the overhead of I/O processing and makes the system better suited for demanding application scenarios such as I/O-intensive ones.
