Children and minors as victims and perpetrators of cyber crimes

Ratomir D. Antonović · 2024

Technical-technological development and progress of society poses certain challenges to legal science as well. New forms of criminal behavior are developing, which are getting more and more difficult and complex ways of execution, and these criminal acts cannot be treated in the same way as acts of classic crime. A higher level of knowledge is required, as well as other investigative techniques and tactics. As an example of crime of the recent era, high-tech or cyber crime is mentioned, which can be freely called crime in development, and the main means of committing these crimes are modern technical equipment and computer technology. It is characteristic of cybercrime that it is the crime of children and young people, which should not be surprising given that young people have the best command of modern technology and know it best. Modern technology is largely unknown to older generations, while young people start their cyber activity very early, and quickly become sovereign connoisseurs of new cyber expanses. In the work itself, the author deals with the problem of children and minors who are increasingly appearing as victims, but also as perpetrators of cyber crimes. Children and minors are a particularly sensitive category, and the latest events in our society have only proved that they have been insufficiently cared for and taken care of. Cyber space has proven to be a very dangerous space for children and minors, who are often the target of the so-called cyber predators, but they themselves become predators and perpetrators of serious crimes.
