Automated Liver Tumor Segmentation: Integrating Spatial Filtering and Intensity Thresholding Techniques

Rhini A. Bhusnurmath, Shivaleela Betageri · 2024

Liver related disease is a significant public health concern. Liver tumor segmentation is critical in the detection and treatment of liver cancer. Accurate liver tumor segmentation allows for precise radiation therapy treatment planning, shape analysis, and detecting volume changes in the tumors. The development of automatic segmentation methods using advanced image processing techniques holds great promise for improving the precision of radiation therapy treatment planning and the analysis of tumor characteristics. In this research article, we delve into the innovative approach of using thresholding and spatial filtering technique such as Gaussian filter for the segmentation of liver tumors from CT scan images. By employing these methods, the study aims to contribute to the advancement of tumor segmentation, which could ultimately enhance the accuracy of diagnosis and treatment planning for liver cancer.
