Partially Overlapping Basis Functions for Surface Integral Equations

This study proposes novel partially overlapping Rao-Wilton-Glisson (PO-RWG) basis functions defined at the boundary of local refined meshes, to solve surface integral equations for electromagnetic (EM) scattering. Differing from the traditional RWG basis functions, the proposed PO-RWG basis functions exhibit the property of localized domain overlapping. The normal continuity of the surface currents across the tearing contours is automatically satisfied by simply introducing additional RWG basis functions, eliminating the need for interior penalty (IP) terms typically required by the discontinuous Galerkin surface integral equation method. Key features of the proposed PO-RWG basis functions include ease of construction, straightforward implementation, adaptability, and versatility.
