Energy-Efficient LEACH Approach Employing SOM and K-Means
Mary Nirmala George, Siddharth Shelly · 2024
An ad hoc deployment of several wireless sensors is the basis of an infrastructure-less wireless network known as a wireless sensor network (WSN). These sensors are positioned in a spatially ordered manner with the intention of monitoring and gathering environmental data. Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are designed to wirelessly transfer data about physical variables, such as temperature, humidity, and other environmental parame-ters, that are being monitored in real time. Numerous industries, such as as industrial automation, healthcare, agriculture, and environmental monitoring, use this technology. The architecture of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) is restricted by limitations in energy, bandwidth, and computational power. Several routing protocols have been created to overcome these obstacles and enhance network efficiency. Some solutions to address these challenges are implementing energy efficient protocols, bandwidth management and processing capacity optimization. Here in this proposal there is a comparison of nearest neighbour based K-means and Self Organizing Map (SOM) clustering based on LEACH which is Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy protocol. According to the results, LEACH with K-means per-forms better when taking into account the number of rounds and throughput, although LEACH with SOM uses less energy.
