Tactical Analysis and Defense Strategy Assessment of the Saudi Attack Incident Based on Simulation

Yilin Tang, Ziming Wan · 2024

Focusing on the September 2019 attack on Saudi Arabian oil facilities, this study examines the contextual background and associated intelligence. It scrutinizes the deployment status of Saudi air defense systems at that time and systematically constructs operational sequences for both drone assaults and cruise missile strikes. Utilizing simulation, the study uncovers the Saudi air defense system’s shortcomings in detecting low-altitude small targets and its interception capabilities. The integration of domestically produced, export-oriented F-2 and F-3 weapon systems is proposed to bolster defenses against drone swarms and cruise missiles. Subsequent simulation confirm the efficacy of the enhanced defense strategy. Furthermore, it posits that with the proliferation of swarm and salvo tactics, the development trajectory of air defense weaponry will favor low-cost systems with large munition capacities.
