A wideband omnidirectional cylindrical filtering dielectric resonator (DR) antenna (DRA) with metal patches is proposed in this paper. The proposed filtering DRA is consisted of a printed-circuit board (PCB), a DR and several metal patches. The different lengths of metal patches are pasted on the inside and the outside walls of DR. The circular patch and the ring-shaped patch are placed on the top of the PCB and below the DR. The DRA has two omnidirectional radiation modes, namely TMo12 and$TM_{01+\delta 2}$. And their resonant frequencies are 2.23 GHz and 2.70 GHz, respectively. By integrating two resonant frequencies, the proposed filtering DRA has a broad passband and stabilized omnidirectional radiation patterns. The simulated impedance bandwidth is 31.3% (2.05-2.81 GHz). The proposed filtering DRA has two radiation nulls. The low-frequency radiation null is depended on the ring-shaped patch and the metal patches pasted on the outside wall of DR. The high-frequency radiation null is generated by the DR. The broad bandwidth and wide stopband are depended on the circular patch and the metal patches pasted on the inside wall of DR.
