Multi-Blockchain Model for IoT Devices Forensic Investigations on Spidernet
Soraya Harding, Mo Adda · 2024
The exponential growth of Internet of Things (IoT) devices in distributed networks has introduced new challenges in digital forensics investigations, primarily due to the decentralized and heterogeneous nature of these environments. This paper presents a Multi-Blockchain Model specifically designed for digital forensics investigations of IoT devices operating on distributed networks. The proposed model leverages the strengths of multiple blockchain technologies to create a secure, tamper-resistant, and scalable framework for forensic data collection, analysis, and preservation. The distributed network used for this paper is called Spidernet. Each blockchain within the model is optimized for different aspects of the forensic process, such as data integrity verification, evidence logging, and chain of custody management. Experimental results demonstrate that the Multi-Blockchain Model significantly enhances the reliability, accuracy, and efficiency of forensic investigations compared to traditional methods. This study advances the field of digital forensics by providing a robust and innovative solution that addresses the complexities of investigating IoT devices in distributed network environments, ultimately contributing to more secure and trustworthy IoT ecosystems.
