Teaching Conceptual Modeling in the Age of Generative Conversational AI: Ideas for a Research Agenda

As core activity in software development and organizational analysis, conceptual modeling is a learning task faced by most students of computer science, software engineering, and related programs. Advances in capabilities and increased availability of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies offer transformative potential for teaching and learning in higher education. Hence, this article elaborates on opportunities and challenges of AI technology for teaching conceptual modeling to initiate further discussion on the topic. Future research can draw upon first ideas for a research agenda to advance our knowledge on teaching conceptual modeling in the age of generative conversational AI.
