Performance Testing of High Voltage and High Current Non-Conventional Instrument Transformers and Sensors
David Wallace, S Nilboworn · 2024
Traditional methods of protecting the electrical grid have relied on relaying systems receiving voltage and current inputs from inductive instruments transformers (IT). This method has provided robust and stable performance throughout the years. Today with the advent of new nonconventional transformers (NCIT) and sensors, the electrical landscape is changing. It is critical to understand how well NCITs and sensors can perform when subjected to the same conditions as a traditional IT. This paper will help fill in this knowledge gap through a thorough testing routine, subjecting NCITs and sensors to the same tests as applied to ITs.
