A Data Aggregation Scheme with Unequal Clustering for Wireless Sensor Networks

Neng-Chung Wang, Ping Wang, Jhen-Cong Luo · 2024

In a wireless sensor network (WSN), for the equalclustering data transmission method, the cluster head (CH) closeto the base station (BS) transmits more data than the CH faraway from the BS, and therefore consumes more energy, resulting in hot spot problem. However, for the unequalclustering routing method, the cluster range closer to the BS issmaller, which helps to reduce the transmission traffic burdenin clusters closer to the BS. The unequal clustering datatransmission method uses the characteristics of unequal clustersizes to balance the energy burden between CHs, thereby solvingthe hotspot problem. In this paper, a tree-based unequalclustering data aggregation scheme is proposed for WSNs. Theproposed scheme can improve the energy efficiency of WSNs.
