Grid Generation Using Deep Learning on Pupil Smartphone Images for Dry Eye Self-medication

Ran Wainai, Kaito Okazaki, Makoto Hasegawa · 2024

Dry eye can be detected by observing the distortion of grid lines in the pupil when the eyes are photographed using a smartphone equipped with a grid cylinder. However, the grid cylinder must be provided as an attachment to a smartphone, which limits its range of applications. This study explores the possibility of generating gridlines in the pupil without the use of a grid cylinder by capturing images with and without a the cylinder and employing deep learning techniques. Experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method.
