Share Proofs of Concept Early and Often

Tamara Carleton, William Cockayne · 2023

Proof of concepts (POCs) are excellent tools for moonshot work because teams can use these prototypes to elicit feedback from early adopters and simultaneously build support for a vision. Early adopters are an ideal audience for POCs because they are much more willing to forgive functionality gaps or product glitches. The early work of moonshots is especially fraught with ambiguity. Beyond telling others about a dazzling vision with words, moonshot leaders and teams should show their vision through POCs early and often for ongoing feedback. As moonshot teams share their POCs further beyond their internal networks, they will gain other benefits—finding that these early tech demonstrations can help position themselves as an industry leader, surface future customer interest in the marketplace, and help them decide where to focus next in business models and experiments.
