A novel method to measure the directional evidence conflict

Wei Fu, Qidan Zhu, Lipeng Wang · 2024

The Dempster-Shafer (D-S) evidence theory is an essential algorithm for fusing multi-sensor information. It is particularly important in effectively assessing conflicts, especially in circumstances with highly conflicting evidence. Conventional approaches for measuring evidence conflict typically consider symmetry but ignore the disparity in the mutual conflict between pieces of evidence. This work introduces a novel approach for measuring directional conflict, known as the directional belief earth mover’s distance (DBEMD). The approach is based on the earth mover’s distance, which measures the difference between propositions by introducing the directional conflict factor. The results from the experiment indicate that the proposed method precisely measures the evidence conflict and assesses directional conflict efficiently.
