Frequency Analysis of Coreference Resolution

Mridusmita Das, Apurbalal Senapati · 2024

The expressions in a text that refer to the same thing are collectively referred to as coreferences. For example, consider the sentence - “The International Space Station is a large spacecraft in orbit around Earth. It serves as a home where crews of astronauts and cosmonauts live. The space station is also a unique science laboratory”. In this example, The International Space Station, It, and The space station are the coreferences. To find out these coreferences is known as Coreference Resolution. Coreference Resolution is an important task for linguistic as well as computational aspects. It is used in the various applications of Natural Language Processing (NLP) tasks like Information Retrieval (IR), Machine translation (MT), Text summarization, Question answering system, etc. This study focuses on the statistical data for coreference entity links across texts from various domains. How often does coreference occur or how frequently does co-referent occur in a text? So far such basic statistical analysis is not explored. This paper tried to explore this issue. Here we have considered the Assamese and the English languages.
