Superheated steam dryers can be easily integrated with other types of dryers as well as other processes to improve overall performance (energy efficiency, drying time, etc.) and/or product quality. There are few works on the integration of SSD with other types of dryers, generally referred to as hybrid drying, such as HAD, far-infrared radiation dryers, heat pumps, etc. Furthermore, the excess steam generated during drying, equivalent to the amount of moisture evaporated, needs to be utilized appropriately to improve its green footprint and overall efficiency. This can be best possible by integrating with other processes utilizing the excess steam at 100°C and atmospheric pressure or in thermal power plants, renewable energy sources, etc. Further, there may be a possibility of excess steam compression for energy supply for drying, wherever economically feasible. In this chapter, a discussion on hybrid drying is put forward, followed by the integration of the dryers in various processes.
