Modeling of SSD and LPSSD

Only experimental studies are insufficient to explore and understand multi-faceted drying technique like SSD, hence several studies on theoretical modeling and numerical simulation of superheated steam drying technique have been carried out. In general, the mathematical modeling studies in drying focus on modeling of drying kinetics or modeling of the drying system by solving complex heat and mass balance equations. The theoretical research studies of SSD have focused on drying kinetics, understanding physical phenomena in single particle drying, design of selected dryers (e.g., packed bed and fluid bed dryers) using appropriate heat and mass balance equations, product quality, and computational fluid dynamics approach for various applications. This chapter is a quick overview of several theoretical studies of superheated steam drying.
