Identity verification at water and land borders constitutes a great challenge for Border Authorities and relevant technology providers due to the continuous variability and complexity of the border crossing points. In the meantime, identity fraud continuously evolves requiring novel mechanisms for secure and seamless identity verification. ODYSSEUS introduces a set of novel biometric-based mechanisms that will allow EU citizens that are or not part of the Schengen area to cross the borders across the Member States in a secure and frictionless manner. Seamless identity verification based on facial biometric will perform 1:N matching without requiring from the user to stop at the border. A novel Digital and Virtual passport will allow EU citizens to verify their identity through a mobile wallet, which will be protected through AI-powered continuous behavioural authentication. Each of the technologies will be explained through X-AI for improved result interpretation and reasoning, while the results of each of the technologies will be fused through the Decision Support System (DSS) into an overall identity risk score provided to the Border Authorities. A faceless person counting component will allow Border Authorities to further predict potential queues at the border crossing points and perform relevant adjustments. The platform will be validated in water and land Schengen borders showcasing the increase in productivity and reduction of queues at the borders.
