This paper involves the file system performance comparison for type-1 hypervisors which are based on Linux operating system. Xen and Proxmox were selected like the typical type-1 Linux-based hypervisors. Both hypervisors contain similar Linux-based and QEMU-based architectures at first sight but in the details, significant differences will appear. For our experiments, we have chosen Filebench as the benchmarking tool. Filebench is recognized for its great flexibility and adaptability. This benchmark allows the emulation of useful applications in realistic server environments. The guest operating system was represented by Centos 9, as typical representative of the Linux distributions. Throughout our tests, the virtual machines operate simultaneously, while number of virtual machines are from one to four. In this paper, we setup a mathematical model of hypervisor virtualisation. Paper includes experimental measurements of file system performance, also. We used the set model for interpretation the performance results derived from the experiment.
