Sumit Kumar Rana, Sanjeev Kumar Rana · Apple Academic Press eBooks · 2024

In this era of digitization, every domain is being affected by technical advancements. The judicial system is one domain that needs improvement in its process of storing and securing evidence in an efficient way. As evidence may be accessed by multiple parties connected to a particular investigation, the originality of the evidence must be maintained. To preserve the originality of an evidence, the entire process from evidence collection to submission in court must be recorded in a tamperproof digital ledger. A combination of decentralized access control mechanism and an immutable ledger that stores the entire lifecycle of the evidence can be the solution. Blockchain technology can be very fruitful in this scenario as it has the features required to maintain the authenticity of the evidence. In this chapter, a blockchain technology supported novel method is proposed to avoid tampering and maintain the authenticity and integrity of the evidence.
