Fingerprint Security and the Internet of Things (IoT) in the Digital Era

Neha Vaishnavi Sharma, Pankaj Dhiman · 2024

The Internet of Things (IoT) is the global connection and management of physical objects using the Internet. This concept can make homes smarter, safer, and more automated. Home automation involves remotely controlling and supervising all aspects of home management. With the growth and expansion of the internet, many opportunities and applications for remote access and tracking of networked devices have emerged. IoT devices are increasingly used in vast smart applications. However, this complex and internet-connected environment raises new problems, such as personal data being frequently accessible without residents’ knowledge. The aim is to use specific mechanisms to ensure that if a biometric template is compromised, it can be cancelled, and a new one can be generated. In IoT-based systems, many revocability techniques have been adopted. This study aims to provide a review that aggregates and categorises various approaches based on broad revocability categories. Finally, our research aims to assist future researchers by identifying security vulnerabilities, open difficulties, and future opportunities in IoT fingerprint authentication.
