A Security Driven Energy Efficient Workflow Allocation Algorithm under Deadline Constraints for Cloud Computing

Mahfooz Alam, Mohammad Shahid, Suhel Mustajab · 2023

Cloud computing has risen as a prevalent approach for providing diverse internet-based services to users. Workflow allocation in cloud environments is a critical task that involves the efficient allocation of tasks to appropriate resources. The energy consumption and security aspects of workflow allocation are important considerations that impact the overall performance and reliability of cloud-based systems. This paper proposes a novel algorithm, named the Security-Driven Energy-Efficient Workflow Allocation Algorithm (SEWA), which addresses these challenges by considering energy efficiency, and security to satisfy the deadline and precedence constraints of the task. The SEWA algorithm intelligently allocates workflow tasks to cloud resources while minimizing energy consumption, ensuring security requirements, and meeting deadlines. Experimental evaluations demonstrate the effectiveness of the SEWA algorithm in achieving significant energy savings, enhancing security, and meeting workflow deadlines. The experiments are conducted using realistic workflows such as CyberShake, Montage, and LIGO and cloud infrastructure models. The performance metrics include risk probability and energy consumption.
