Building Digital Humanities Curricula in Technology-Emphasized Indian Classrooms

Mayurakshi Chaudhuri, Chiranjoy Chattopadhyay · 2024

This chapter focuses, analyses, and builds on what is still an underexplored arena in the practices of Digital Humanities (DH) globally and certainly in India: DH Pedagogy . In particular, this chapter explores pedagogical experiences in conceptualizing and implementing a novel DH curriculum in a technology-emphasized Indian context. We discuss the role of DH courses within interdisciplinary domains and based on computer programming, data structures and algorithms, pattern recognition and machine learning techniques, as well as mobile application programming and their roles in the development of computational thinking and problem-solving abilities for DH students, particularly at postgraduate and doctoral levels. We argue for the inclusion of multiple designs of research in DH curricula, and we propose a model DH curriculum framework which we hope includes contextual calibration and triangulation patterns while dealing with data, knowledge structures, and technology to reflect on and solve DH problems.
