Software Maintenance: An Empirical Study of the Influence of Maintenance Characteristics on User Information Satisfaction

Steven D. White, Timothy Paul Cronan · Journal of Computer Information Systems · 1997

The purpose of this study was to assess the characteristics (system and demographic) that influence user information satisfaction (UIS) for users of accounting application systems that have been recently maintained. An analysis of system, user, and maintenance characteristics is presented. Results of the analysis indicate that there are characteristics which may influence the overall UIS and the information product, computer staff/services, and user knowledge/training components of UIS. Variables that affect UIS include type of maintenance, use or nonuse of structured programming, influence of external auditors, number of users, and age of the system. User characteristics that affect UIS include the number of years the user was with the company, level of usage, and certification as an information systems auditor.
