The rapid expansion of Information Technology (IT), the prevalence of Internet usage has surged, presenting both opportunities and risks. The research gauges to measure the current level of cyber security awareness amongst the citizens of the Central India, focusing on understanding their knowledge, practices, and attitudes towards cyber security. The study further examines various aspects including internet proficiency, device security and adherence to cyber security practices. The data, analyzed using IBM SPSS, exhibited good reliability. The majority of respondents, 66% had intermediate proficiency in the internet and digital devices. Concerning security, 56% felt that their devices were moderately secured. Notably, 30% of respondents exhibited good cyber security practices, such as reading terms and conditions carefully and changing passwords frequently. Statistical tests indicated that there is a relationship between educational background and professionally experienced people falling victim to cybercrime. Higher the level of awareness of cyber security the lower the number of incident cases. Direct relationship between level of background, awareness and education and ability to deal with the cybercrimes was established. The findings from this study hold significant implications for policymakers, suggesting the need for targeted awareness campaigns and policy frameworks to mitigate cyber threats in the region.
