Navigating Multiple Service Systems

Dually identified youth are served by multiple systems within schools (e.g., multilingual/ESL, general, and special education). This chapter identifies and summarizes current educational policies and practices that are central to secondary school and transition experiences for dually identified students, including preparing all students to be college and career ready. We take a close look at the classroom contexts and postschool outcomes associated with dually identified students. Implications for preparing students through increased collaboration and a balanced approach to the demands of learning and high expectations for postsecondary education are discussed.
