This article focuses on the Controller Placement Problem (CPP) within 5G Software-Defined Networking (SDN) settings, shedding light on unresolved issues while suggesting potential remedies. Centered on the intricacies and obstacles inherent in 5G environments, the analysis explores the pivotal role of strategic controller placement in bolstering network performance, scalability, and resilience. It scrutinizes various facets of CPP, encompassing propagation latency, reliability, and efficient load distribution, all crucial considerations within the realm of 5G networks. By surveying existing literature, the study exposes deficiencies in current approaches, particularly in adapting to the dynamic nature of 5G architectures. It specifically emphasizes the Multi-Controller Placement Problem (MCPP) as a feasible solution to accommodate the evolving needs of burgeoning 5G networks. This thorough evaluation not only underscores the significance of CPP within 5G SDN but also lays the groundwork for future research endeavors aimed at reinforcing network infrastructure in the age of 5G and beyond.
