Lamiae Sarsar, Abdellah Echaoui · Advances in chemical and materials engineering book series · 2024
This chapter examines the impact of renewable energy adoption on the trajectory of Industry 5.0, focusing on its technological implications. Employing rigorous econometric analysis and panel data covering 135 countries from 2012 to 2020, the study assesses the relationship between renewable energy consumption and digital transformation. Methodologically, comprehensive datasets and robust weighted least squares (RWLS) are utilized to address data non-normality. Findings reveal a consistent negative relationship between renewable energy consumption and digital transformation, indicating potential trade-offs between sustainability goals and technological advancement. Policy implications suggest the need for balanced strategies that reconcile renewable energy integration with digital transformation objectives. Targeted interventions are essential to foster synergies between renewable energy and digital technologies, incentivize research and development, and overcome technological barriers.
