Device-to-Device Communication

Kankanala Kavitha, Suseela Vappangi · 2024

Cooperative device-to-device (C-D2D) communication is a new idea that uses the knowledge of nearby devices to make proximity faster, more reliable, and more efficient. Devices are able to communicate to each other openly in standard device-to-device (D2D) communications, so there is no need for a controlling base station (BS). Cooperative D2D communication, on the other hand, takes this idea a step forward by letting devices work together to create ad hoc networks. This makes coverage better, capacity higher, and energy use lower. This chapter gives an overview of D2D/C-D2D communication, focusing on its pros, cons, and areas where more study is needed. Through C-D2D communication, devices can act as relays, sending signals to more devices and making the signals stronger for those close. C-D2D communication can reduce interference, lower transmission power, and improve network speed by taking advantage of how close devices are to each other and how they can share resources. This chapter gives a short overview of the latest developments in D2D and C-D2D communication systems. There is a thorough look at D2D communication, followed by an explanation of why and how C-D2D communication works. In this way, joint D2D communication is an interesting way to make wireless communication systems more reliable and open to more types of devices. C-D2D communication can improve coverage, increase capacity, and lower energy use by using the ability of close devices to work together. It will be easier for C-D2D communication to become widely used and be built into future communication networks if the problems with allocating resources, managing clusters, and security are fixed.
