CeramiStick is a joystick interface for interacting in real-time with a ceramic 3D printer. The direct interaction skips both the modeling and slicing steps, cutting the ’middleman’ between the machine and the craftsperson, allowing the interaction to embody the craftsperson’s intentions for the machine and material. Recording the craftsperson’s actions, enables the reproduction of the process, capturing unique hand gestures and material behaviors. This work explores the creative opportunities that arise from direct control of a ceramic printer through manual gestures.
