The Comparison of Three Types’ Resource Allocation Approaches for Scalable Video Coding (SVC)-Based Multimedia's Multicast Broadcast Service (MBS)

This work proposes the Utility-centric Scalable Video Coding (SVC)-based radio Resource Allocation (U-S-RA) method for Vehicular Users (VUs) using the no subgrouping approach for multimedia's Multicast Broadcast Service (MBS) in 5G cellular network. U-S-RA devises a utility function, which considers the bitrate of allocated Resource Block (RB), the number of VUs in a multimedia multicast group and the video bit rate that can be achieved, as pivot for resource allocation. To have the clear picture on the performance between the no subgrouping approach and the subgrouping approach, the proposed U-S-RA method is compared with two resource allocation methods that adopt the subgrouping approach. The first one adopts a threshold-based scheme for subgrouping; the second one focuses on maximizing the number of VUs receiving the higher video quality while maintaining the good spectral efficiency for subgrouping. The performance evaluation has the quantitative comparison based on some metrics for these three resource allocation approaches.
