IIoT-based SCADA System for Cargo Ships
Hana A. Khatib, Ashraf A. Zaher · 2024
Cargo ships play a vital role in global goods transportation, requiring a focus on safety to ensure seamless operations. This study introduces an Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and cloud computing SCADA system, emphasizing safety, efficiency, and real-time monitoring. The system, monitored through a MATLAB Human-Machine Interface (HMI), oversees critical parameters such as temperature, air quality, leakage, fire detection, and ship location. It triggers alarms for timely emergency responses. An AI fuzzy logic fire classifier and extinguishing system enhance fire incident management by classifying the cause of the fire and the agent used for extinguishment. For data storage and extraction, a MySQL database is established on a local host. Results indicate successful monitoring and control responses, validating the SCADA system and the efficacy of fuzzy logic in fire handling. Furthermore, the use of IoT enables rapid responses and efficient data monitoring. The proposed system enhances safety, efficiency, and reduces maintenance costs for cargo ships. The study also explores potential improvements for practical real-life implementation, while discussing feasible extensions.
