Campaigning against Disability Hate
Bethany Bale · 2024
Disabled people have historically been, and still are, excluded from campaigning. Whether that be inaccessible activism, charity over human rights, or never being given a seat at the table when it comes to policymaking. Society not being built for Disabled people is the root cause of the vast inequalities that exist today – yet campaigners and policymakers continue to exclude us. This chapter will outline the importance of Disabled-led campaigning and its role in affecting change, as well as highlighting our collective power as Disabled people and campaigners. Whether you&s;re an academic, grassroots campaigner, charity worker, individual member of the public, or a student – this chapter will equip you with the tools and knowledge needed to take action on Disability Hate Crime. Advising how to campaign on both the national and local levels, this chapter will explore all the tools needed for successful action. With real-life case studies dispersed throughout, this chapter will include topics like why campaigning matters, how a campaign evolves and how to fund it – amongst other things. Despite consistently being excluded, Disabled people and our allies have never been easily silenced. Our fight for a seat at the table is a consistent one, but this chapter aims to enable you to make a change whether you&s;re invited or not.
