Storying unlearning for intended, enacted and felt kindness in online environs

Abbey MacDonald · 2024

In this chapter, Abbey McDonald explores the complex relationship between being and becoming kind, and the role unlearning can play in what she describes as intended, enacted, and felt kindness. Abbey feels that our conceptions of intended, enacted and felt kindness can be quite wicked in the sense that our efforts to foster kindness can run into pre-existing wicked problems. As a person drawn to discursive playfulness, Abbey provokes us to consider how the norms and parameters of what we individually and collectively define as ‘kind’ and enact/embrace as ‘kindness’ are being reimagined, particularly for educators who find themselves living aspects of their personal and professional lives in online spaces.
