In the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), the acquisition and analysis of image information can provide intellectualized and accurate cognitive services for vehicles, roads and surrounding buildings. However, with the continual escalation of attacker’s cryptanalysis technologies, sensitive traffic images suffer from serious threats of information leakage during transmission. To this end, a novel two-dimensional triangular chaotic map is proposed in this paper for application to encrypt traffic images. Meanwhile, its chaotic properties are verified by the Lyapunov exponential spectrum, 01 randomness test and bifurcation. Furthermore, integrating the proposed chaotic map with compressive sensing and bidirectional diffusion, a traffic image compression-encryption algorithm for ITS is proposed. Finally, the experimental results indicate that the proposed encryption algorithm exhibits superior security performance compared with the existing related schemes.
