Enhancing Communication by Using Sign Language Recognition

Souryadipta Das, Oindrila Ajha · 2024

Sign language is an essential medium for bridging the communication gap for a specially challenged person who is deaf or unable to hear. The different ways that sign language is used in different locations, as well as the difficulty of collecting and annotating large datasets of sign language images, are major barriers to research in SLR. In order to communicate with the deaf people, we must learn sign language. Typically, learning happens in a group of peers. There aren&s;t many resources available to teach sign language. There are very few materials for learning sign language. For this reason, the procedure of acquiring sign linguistics is a challenging job. An early stage of sign language learning is finger signatures, also used when the corresponding sign language does not exist or is not known to the signer. The majority of current sign language learning solutions rely on pricey external sensors. By gathering datasets, extracting relevant information using various feature extraction approaches, and then feeding that information to various supervised learning algorithms to get the desired output, our study hopes to make progress in this area.
