Field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) are becoming very popular because of their use in numerous technological domains and are getting more and more complicated. Electronics and communication devices will be able to process data in communication technologies with the aid of low-power approaches that must be developed. FPGAs have numerous advantages over traditional digital integrated circuits. The main advantages of using FPGAs are programmability, prototyping, adaptability, simple design cycles, real-time parallel execution, cost efficiency, and faster time to market. Xilinx and Altera series FPGAs are the biggest market players in the world. Apart from these FPGAs, some other companies are in the market: Achronix, Efinix, Lattice Semiconductor, Microchip Technology, QuickLogic Corporation, and Microsemi Corporation. This chapter studies the different electronic circuit designs and applications of FPGAs. The major focus is on the Xilinx series FPGA used for digital integrated circuits and related applications.
