Bluetooth Core Specification

Keunwoo Lim · 2024

This chapter delves specifically into the functions and protocols of Bluetooth, which are categorized into three main parts, the controller, host and the host controller interface. For the Wi-Fi, specific technologies were categorized and explained according to their amendments. Bluetooth Core version 5.1 introduced methods of localization as a component of the standard. Host layer is a hardware-independent implementation of the Bluetooth high layer. This means that the same Bluetooth host should operate regardless of which Bluetooth controller is used, and can also adapt to changes in the controller e.g. plug-and-play Bluetooth systems where a controller can be plugged in through Universal Serial Bus. Bluetooth version 5.2 defines Enhanced Attribute Protocol, which provides enhancements to the original Attribute Protocol. The main notable upgrade is provisioning of concurrent/parallel transactions between a client and a server.
