With the advent of emerging technologies, automation security has become a primary concern in the rapidly growing online systems. Many web applications have been designed to automate the workflow of the transportation sector globally. In the Indian context, VAHAN has been the Regional Transport Offices for providing people with vehicle-related services such as issuing driving licenses and providing registration marks. However, due to an increase in cyberattacks, the current vehicle registration system still has a difficult time ensuring the security and confidentiality of vehicle data. The e-government architecture uses databases for storing vehicle data, which may be the reason for having insider threats in the system. The opacity and centralization properties of the system encourage dishonest employees, who turn out to be insider threats, to manipulate data, which in turn paves the path for security violations such as data breaches. Furthermore, the existing system is an easy target for cyberattacks like denial of service, malicious code injection, etc. The existing system can be made more secure and devoid of any manipulation of data using blockchain technology. Blockchain is a decentralized ledger technology in which data, once stored, cannot be easily tempered. This chapter investigates how blockchain can be useful for avoiding legitimate privilege abuse and how blockchain can be used to diminish existing security threats.
