The Internet of Things (IoT) has revolutionized various industries by enabling the interconnection of physical devices and the collection and exchange of vast amounts of data. However, the increasing complexity and scale of IoT systems have given rise to significant security challenges. Traditional security mechanisms often fall short of providing robust protection against emerging threats. This chapter explores the potential of combining edge computing and blockchain technologies to enhance IoT security. We also discuss edge computing for IoT security which allows for local data processing, real-time threat detection, and offline operation, reducing reliance on the cloud and enhancing data privacy. Blockchain technology provides tamper-proof and transparent data storage, identity management, and auditability, which are also discussed in this chapter. By leveraging the strengths of edge computing and blockchain, IoT security can be significantly enhanced, leading to more resilient and privacy-preserving IoT ecosystems. Furthermore, we also discuss the key security issues in IoT systems and examine how edge computing and blockchain can address these challenges. We also discuss the limitations and potential challenges of combining edge computing and blockchain technology. Our study also discusses that new emerging technologies can be used to enhance the security of the IoT ecosystem.
