The Internet of Vehicles (10V) promises transformative advancements in transportation systems through seamless vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication. However, ensuring the security and trustworthiness of 10 V systems remains a paramount concern. In this paper, we present a novel trust-based security framework tailored for 10 V environments. Our framework integrates a central authority and trust engine responsible for generating signed certificates, utilizing pseudonyms to uphold privacy, for authentication into 10 V clusters. Through our approach, we establish secure communication and interaction among vehicles and infrastructure components, fostering trust and authenticity within the system. Acknowledging this as a proof of concept, we present preliminary results demonstrating the efficacy of our trust-based approach in bolstering the security and trustworthiness of 10 V deployments. Our research contributes to the advancement of secure and resilient transportation ecosystems, laying a foundation for the widespread adoption of 10 V technologies. By prioritizing trust and authentication mechanisms, our framework addresses critical security concerns and paves the way for safer and more dependable Io V systems.
