Representation of data subjects

Niovi Vavoula · Oxford University Press eBooks · 2024

Abstract This chapter focuses on Article 55 of the EU Law Enforcement Directive (LED), which revolves around the representation of data subjects. It discusses the legal background and analysis of its contents and mandates in line with Article 55 LED. The right to representation aims to reinforce and facilitate the exercise of individual rights enjoyed by data subjects by enabling people to mandate a not-for-profit body, organisation, or association to act on their behalf. Additionally, Article 55 LED forms part of the tendency to develop the representative actions brought by entities to protect general or collective interests. However, the provision only covers certain possible dimensions of the right to representation.
