Beware of framework bias
Bob McKercher, Brent Moyle · Tourism Management · 2024
Introduction: While method bias is recognised widely as an issue facing social science research, scholars are largely ignorant of the implications of framework bias, especially when frameworks from other disciplines or fields of study are imported to inform tourism research. What is rarely understood, contested or debated, is how the selection of a conceptual framework influences how research questions are framed and what data are collected and analysed. As a consequence, the framework may bias findings just as much or even more than the method, for the conceptual model used may reveal more about the framework being applied than the actual phenomenon being investigated.
