With the rapid increase in information technology and research purposes, the content based image retrieval system has gained the great concern for the rapid research purposes.Also many numbers of databases have been created for storage of different types of images that could be processed and different type of information could be retrieved from these images.This leads to increase in the number of methods that could be used for searching and extracting the features from various images and also different feature extraction techniques have been invented for heading towards efficient image retrieval systems.This paper will provide various trends in image retrieval and feature selection and extraction.
