Modeling of Product Formulations Using a Latent Variable Approach

Alexander Nguyen, Marlene Cardin · 2024

The focus of this chapter is on the application of latent variable regression method PLS (partial least squares or projection to latent structures) for product formulation applications. Latent variable modeling is a powerful tool to model and analyze both large and small datasets; it has a successful history in manufacturing datasets and chemometrics and is very well suited to handle product development datasets. This chapter includes an introduction to latent variable methods, discusses data preparation, model building, model interpretation, and applying the model to make predictions.
