Securing the internet of things with blockchain

Hamed Taherdoost · 2024

Due to the inherent hazards and vulnerabilities of hacked internet of things (IoT) devices, securing the IoT is a challenging task. This chapter reviews current security mechanisms and focuses on comprehending the dangers and vulnerabilities in IoT networks. However, the development of blockchain technology has offered a potentially effective way to improve IoT security. Blockchain offers substantial security capabilities that can overcome the inadequacies of conventional security approaches by exploiting its decentralized and immutable nature. This chapter examines IoT security issues and threats, reviews current countermeasures, and emphasizes the promise of blockchain technology. It explores the security aspects of blockchain, highlights its main uses, and compares implementations. Future research prospects are outlined for scalable and interoperable blockchain solutions in IoT security, and limitations and difficulties are discussed.
