Paediatric Mobile Radiography Technique
Amanda E. Martin, Ken Holmes, Andrea Hulme, Helen Fowler · 2024
The differences, both physically and developmentally, between a preterm neonate and an adolescent pose a variety of challenges to the radiographer when undertaking mobile radiography. Additionally, aspects of the examination which need to be considered when compared with that of an adult include dose related to greater organ radiosensitivity, image quality due to low bone mineralisation and the technique of imaging quite often very tiny patients. While there may be challenges in dealing with older children, the technique is very similar to that for adults. This chapter will concentrate on mobile radiography of neonates and very young children, outlining the different techniques used for chest and abdominal imaging.
