The practice of evaluating an Internet of Things (IoT) system’s effectiveness and efficiency is known as IoT performance evaluation. To assess the system’s dependability, scalability, responsiveness, and general functionality, various performance indicators must be measured. Network connectivity, data transmission speed, latency, power consumption, security, and device compatibility are among the variables evaluated during IoT performance evaluation. This assessment can be carried out using a variety of techniques, such as modelling, field testing, and live deployment monitoring. Finding possible bottlenecks, weaknesses, or opportunities for improvement in an IoT system is the aim of performance evaluation. Stakeholders may optimize the system, improve user experience, and assure seamless operation by measuring and evaluating performance parameters. Overall, IoT performance assessment is essential. In this chapter, a thorough discussion on the importance and vitality of IoT performance evaluation and assessment is discussed.
