More on the Potential of an Electrode

Jean‐Louis Burgot · 2024

Some supplementary points are given concerning the potential of an electrode in this chapter. The absolute potential of an electrode is defined as being the difference of potential between the two rows of the interface of the double layer. The important point is the fact that it is impossible to measure the absolute potential of an electrode. On the other hand, it is also noticed that it is possible to obtain the variations of these absolute potentials through the use of reference electrodes which must be unpolarizable.
